Klass Kote Epoxy Paint the preferred choice of the Champions

Over the last 25 years I have built several scale models for F4C international competition, most in their time have achieved the highest individual static marks at Scale World Championships. The problem in the past however has always been a deterioration in the paint finish over a period of time especially with the use of nitrated glow fuel and some synthetic oils; this can easily ruin a good scale model that has taken several years to build. On my new DH9A I have chosen Klass Kote silver epoxy paint which not only sprays well to give a light yet dense covering, but also a remarkably realistic finish when applied to doped fabric to represent the "Silver Wings" of the inter-war period.  More importantly, it has the best fuel proofing properties of anything I have used to date, I am delighted with this product.

After two trips to Toledo, the NATS, Scale Masters Qualifier and several years of sport flying, my Grumman Lynx looks as good as the day it was completed.  Klass Kote is the most durable finish I have ever used.  I especially like the sharp lines I see when I pull off the masking tape.  And I don't need a clear coat for a glossy finish.  I've used dope and auto paints for decades but Klass Kote is just as light and far more durable.

My latest is a fifth-scale Focke Wulf TA 152H done in Klass Kote thoughout but this time in a semi-flat finish.  The primer was applied with a miniroller, the base color was laid down with a spray gun and the remaining colors were applied with an air brush.  I am impressed with Klass Kote's versatility and durability.

Thanks for a fine product.

Best wishes,

I attached photos of three of my models done with your excellent paint. The P-39 was my first attempt with Klasskote, the Stinson is all Klasskote straight over fabric and the P-47 is a Top Flite built-up kit with a full weathered finish. I sincerely hope your epoxy paint remains available as nothing else matches it's ease of application and finish quality…in my opinion. I also appreciate your awesome customer support with mixes, ordering, tech support etc.

The model featured is almost 1/4 scale and is constructed from the Graham Smith plan which was originally published by R/C Model Flyer.

The finished model is painted in Klass Kote Deep Red gloss and cream (white with a bit of iron oxide supplied by Mike)

before painting the gloss a coat of white fast primer from Klass Kote was used and this gave a good surface to apply the final gloss, filling the fabric weave vey nicely.

I am a great fan of Klass Kote and find the paint does exactly what it says on the can. I applied all the paint by spray which worked well without any special gun etc.

The full size aircraft can be seen at Sywell Aerodrome Northamptonshire

The helicopter, CH-53 (Sikorsky S-65), is built from a kit by Vario Helicopters. It has a 2m six blade rotorhead and is powered by a JetCat turbine. It has working retractable undercarriage and cargo door. The main fuselage is a expoxy moulding.

I prepared the fuselage for paint by sanding off the shiny surface of the gel coat using 320 grit sand paper. After cleaning the fuselage off with thinners I spray primed it using KlassKote grey primer. The following day I mixed two KlassKote colours using their mixing chart and satin part B with some flatting powder added. I spray painted these two colours to give the effect shown.

The KlassKote paint covers very well. It dries to a dust proof surface in about 30mins and can be lightly handed after about 4 hours. I was very impressed with the KlassKote paint system and will be using on my future helicopters

Attached is a photo of a restored control line model originally built in 1951, top-coated with your Klass Kote clear.  I restored this ancient Debolt SportWing as a project for my web site www.ClassicAircraftModels.com .  Although my restorations use authentic dope finishes, I always top-coated with HobbyPoxy to preserve the finish.  With the passing of that product I thought I would never find a suitable substitute, but your clear epoxy has proven to be a perfect replacement.  It sprays beautifully and hardens quickly to a fine gloss finish.  The gloss on the SportWing is entirely from a single coat of Klass Kote...the dope finish substrate was thin, and the silk weave was prominant.  A single light coat of your product made the model look like it has twenty coats of rubbed-out dope.

Thanks for developing this great product.

The white shown below is our new Insignia White, nice to see it in real life - you see to welel her in the picture - it is not a brilliant White it is a white with a little yellow and black in it (to make your own for Roundels it is 1 drop black and few drops of yellow in the White), Cub Yellow on the top wing - Deep Red Stripes and Indigo or Deep Blue on the tailplane.

RYAN PT22 @ 3.3 Scale by Richard Crapp

Built from Bob Sweitzer Plan sold by Jerry Bates and enlarged 20%

It is powered by a Laser 300 V and built with conventional materials such as balsa and light ply. The wings are covered with Profitex from Practical scale in Germany ; Rib tapes are by Mick Reeves and painted with KlassKote. Masking by Flight line graphics.

The Balsa fuselage is covered in BondaGlass pond liner coating and 3/4ozcloth, primed with KlasKote white primer and then covered in Aluminium foil from Solutions Company. The markings were applied then it was coated in a thin coat of KlasKote Clear.

The rivets were stuck on with drops of KK clear then it was re coated with KK clear for a permant and crystal clear finish that will not yellow .

The kit was purchase by a guy over 25 years ago who sadly passed away and never got to build it. It is a Topflite Gold Edition 1/8 scale. The kit was meant to be covered with Monocote but i thought i would take it to the extremes.

Bear in mind that this is the first plane i have ever built so everything was new to me. It would not have been possible for me to build this kit without the entire voluimes of Dave Platts excellent DVD's thatI I have collected, as you can see, his knowledge and expertise portrayed in these DVD's pays dividends, if a complete beginner can produce this standard of work from what Dave has illustrated... then he is very successful in the way he puts them together.

Dave recommends KlassKote in all his DVD's and speaks highly of its quality. Following the masters instruction it lead me to contact your good self. Having never held a spray gun yet alone use one, i followed the masters instructions and this is the final result. I am amazed at the standard of the paint job and really pleased of my first attempt.

My experience with your Klass Kote paints was excellent. I used it to clear coat over PPG Acrylic Lacquer. It was compatible and worked perfectly. Since the model is used in Masters level scale competition, the colors have to be exact. PPG has cross reference lists to mix their paints and perfectly match FS numbers. But it is not fuel proof, hence the Klass Kote Clear #40 finish, which holds up to 20% nitro fuel just fine. The model scored near perfect in the color and finish category.

Thanks again for a wonderful product.
